Nemetschek Vectorworks Sponsors Architectural Record Napkin Sketch Contest for Second Year Running

Nemetschek Vectorworks, Inc., has announced its sponsorship of the 2014 Architectural Record Cocktail Napkin Sketch Contest for the second year in a row. Through this contest, architects and related professionals in the United States share their creative concepts on five-inch-by-five-inch cocktail napkins, which will be available to interested participants at the Vectorworks booth during the AIA Convention 2014.

Past entries have included drawings of iconic buildings, sketches of ancient masterworks and studies on the design process. All winners and finalists will be published in Architectural Record and showcased in the online Cocktail Napkin Sketch Gallery. Two grand-prize winners will also receive a box of napkins printed with their sketches.

“For decades, architects have been famous for using cocktail napkins to sketch out their architectural ideas,” said Laura Viscusi, vice president of McGraw-Hill Construction Media and publisher of Architectural Record, GreenSource and SNAP. “Anecdotal evidence shows architects still rely on this method— especially when they are in groups or traveling alone. In acknowledging this particular but productive idiosyncrasy, Architectural Record has created this competition for the best designs generated by those sketching on a cocktail napkin. We are delighted to have Nemetschek Vectorworks as a second-year sponsor.”

Contestants can draw their designs and submit entries at the Vectorworks booth (#3251) at the AIA Convention 2014 in Chicago, June 26-28. Mailed submissions received by 5:00 PM EST on June 30, 2014, will also be accepted, and winners will be announced in September. Empower Your Workflow at the AIA Convention 2014

To complement the contest, award-winning architects and industry specialists will demonstrate the best practices and practical applications of BIM at the Vectorworks booth during the three-day AIA Convention 2014. Booth visitors will also have a chance to win Wacom® Intuos Pro pen tablets, as well as to gain insight through knowledge-building presentations, demos, and more on how to transition from CAD to BIM, create clear, concise, and bid-ready documents plus support their team’s unique design workflow.
