Are you facing any of the following challenges?
  • Product Engineering resists giving up control over the single BOM.
  • Manufacturing Engineering resists taking on the increased workload and responsibility (i.e., risk) of mBOM ownership; and the same attitude prevails in Service Engineering.
  • Issues arise regarding effectivity, consumption, and reconciliation when converting from single BOM to eBOM/mBOM.
  • The impacted business areas readily provide documentation of increased cost but are less forthcoming with any evidence of value received from multi-BOM.
  • Management, that was once supportive, is having second thoughts because they hear of problems but do not see evidence of benefits.
  • Gaps in PLM technology’s multi-view BOM capability are discovered late in the development cycle or, worse, during or after go-live.

The Digital Thread has been a core element of the PLM vision for decades. The concept of linking multiple representations of a product, each tuned to the needs of various creators and consumers along the lifecycle, is powerful. Within the last 3- to 5-years, commercial PLM solutions have advanced to a point where the enablement of the Digital Thread is technically possible. Leaders in many industries are starting to implement multiple-view bill of materials (multi-view BOM) solutions and envision expanding these solutions upstream and downstream as a digital thread throughout the product lifecycle.

This webinar focuses on multi-view BOM strategies for the implementation of eBOM, mBOM, and sBOM structures that are core to the concept of the digital thread. While the prospect of providing autonomy to Manufacturing and Services Engineering to achieve flexibility, efficiency, and speed in resolving production and customer service issues is compelling, the journey is fraught with challenges. This webinar examines two major difficulties that commonly arise and prescribes methods to overcome them. The first addresses the reality that multi-BOM solutions involve disruptive change to processes and roles. The second addresses the reality that multi-view BOM technology has gaps that are not thoroughly understood.

What will I learn by attending this webinar?
  • You will gain an understanding of the nature of two major factors that impact the success or failure of a multi-view BOM transformation.
  • You will learn how to turn organizational resistance to a multi-view BOM transformation into positive engagement.
  • You will learn how to sustain management support by applying a defined methodology to quantify and verify benefits of a multi-view BOM transformation.
  • You will find out how to anticipate and remediate technology gaps early in the multi-view BOM solution planning work stream.
Who should attend?
  • PLM program and project managers
  • PLM program planners
  • PLM solution architects
  • PLM business analysts
  • PLM organizational change management professionals
  • Configuration management specialists
  • Corporate strategic planners
  • Corporate IT planners
  • Anyone who wants to learn about making the idea of multi-view BOM management a reality.

During the webinar you’ll also have the opportunity to ask questions about the topics discussed.
