UGS Launches Teamcenter Content Management Solution, Extending Value of PLM with Integrated Product and Support Documentation
UGS Corp. announced a new content management solution for Teamcenter® software that extends the company's suite of PLM offerings. The new dynamic publishing solution is integral to the overall PLM process, enabling companies to automate the assembly and publishing of product or service information in multiple languages and formats.
"In today's knowledge-based economy, organizations must meet consumer demands for information with accurate, relevant, consistent and current documentation," said Steve Bashada, vice president of Teamcenter Applications, UGS. "By tying content management to PLM, Teamcenter's new offering enables UGS customers to create, manage and reuse their vast amounts of product information in a dynamic publishing environment that creates a less costly and more efficient process for linking critical product knowledge with technical documents. Proven solution; state-of-the-art technology
The new offering announced today builds on Teamcenter's data management and collaboration technology to deliver a content management solution that treats product-related documentation as an intrinsic part of the product itself. The result is a proven solution that eliminates the manual, repetitive, error-prone steps typically associated with the development of technical publications. Using Teamcenter's content management solution, companies can develop richer, more interactive and accurate documentation that is synchronized with the underlying product data and is generated in significantly less time. The new offering also makes it easy to localize documents with multiple language support, reconfigure to reflect product variants, or adapt to match a customized product.
"With content management software, we have increased the number of technical publications we produce by a factor of four," said Morten Skakke, Manager of Technical Literature and e-Business, Danfoss Drives. "We have been able to do so without a corresponding increase in the number of technical authors required. Multi-language support has also allowed us to increase our localizations per manual from seven to 27 languages.
"Now that Teamcenter has integrated content management within its latest technology, we are enjoying greater cost reductions and improved performance from this system. In addition, we have improved collaboration due to Teamcenter's support for global authoring teams, Web portal publishing and better integration with our translation office."
Teamcenter uses a common change management process ensuring that all impacts to documentation caused by a change to the product are identified, and management is provided with visibility into the status of the implementation. Applying Teamcenter's world-class configuration management capabilities to documents provides more flexibility to control content variability and facilitates the reuse of document components. Establishing a single source of product information improves the efficiency and accuracy of the entire documentation process.
Teamcenter's content management offering adds value to a variety of technical publishing applications including:
• Product manuals such as user manuals and owner's manuals as well as parts and product catalogs.
• Work instructions which include manufacturing process sheets, assembly/disassembly instructions, logistics support documents and service and repair manuals for maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO).
• General documents such as resource descriptions, costing and estimating documents and product labels.
