Hubbell Lighting Selects Certeon to Accelerate Its High Performance Process and Change Engineering Environment

Certeon , the industry's first vendor to provide Application Intelligent NetworkingT for significantly accelerating application access over wide area networks (WANs), announced that Hubbell Lighting, Inc., an innovator and manufacturer of lighting solutions worldwide, has chosen Certeon's S-SeriesT appliances to accelerate its distributed process and change engineering environment. The S-Series appliances improved Hubbell Lighting's 3D document download time by 100 to 125 percent without requiring additional network bandwidth. The S-Series deployment increased productivity at branch offices by 75 percent.

Hubbell Lighting operates a globally distributed manufacturing and engineering organization. Its process engineering and change management environment includes application solutions such as UGS® Solid EdgeT and Microsoft® SharePoint®. Headquartered in Spartanburg, SC, its engineering organization needed to share large CAD documents over a Microsoft SharePoint Web portal to more than 200 people in North America, located in Spartanburg, SC, Tijuana, Mexico, and Christianburg, VA.

Hubbell Lighting's ability to advance and standardize on these high-performance process management, CAD, and Web-based collaboration solutions was impacted by the WAN's inherent issues of high network latency and congestion. CAD designs took as long as 15 minutes to download and open, impeding the productivity of the distributed engineering and manufacturing organization. To overcome the network bottlenecks, Hubbell Lighting deployed Certeon's S-Series S-1000 and S-2000 Application Acceleration Appliances.

The S-Series overcomes the inherent latency of the WAN by employing its Application Acceleration BlueprintsT and Object Differencing EngineT which identify the application objects contained within documents, differencing the changes in those documents, and then only sending the compressed differences over the network. The improved product lifecycle management (PLM) processes and application response time that Hubbell Lighting gained by deploying the combination of UGS, Microsoft, and Certeon enabled it to realize a 75 percent gain in productivity at its engineering and manufacturing organizations.

"Certeon has given us the opportunity to take our engineering resources to the next level," states Kevin Poyck, vice president, engineering, Hubbell Lighting, Inc. "By eliminating the network bottlenecks, Certeon's S-Series enabled us to fully optimize our process and change engineering deployments and maximize our productivity."

Certeon's S-Series Application Acceleration Appliances with Application Intelligent Networking are the next generation of application acceleration and application delivery solutions for maximizing the speed, security, and scalability of globally distributed applications. The S-Series appliances enable application intelligence on the network, significantly improving application response times for all HTTP/S traffic over the WAN and specifically for mission-critical process management and collaboration applications such as UGS Solid Edge and Microsoft SharePoint.

"With so much invested in its PLM application deployments, Hubbell Lighting needed to find a cost-effective solution to significantly improve application response times over the WAN," said Gareth Taube, vice president worldwide marketing, Certeon. "The S-Series enabled Hubbell Lighting's existing application and networking environments to function more effectively and deliver the productivity that it was looking for."
