Siemens PLM Software Technology Speeds Hendrick Motorsports and Driver Jimmie Johnson to Consecutive Nascar Nextel Cup Championships
Siemens PLM Software announced Siemens PLM Software-sponsored driver Jimmie Johnson and Hendrick Motorsports - whose cars are developed with the help of Siemens PLM Software technology - won the 2007 NASCAR® NEXTEL Cup championship for the second year in a row. Johnson secured the championship in the final race of the season, the Ford 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
Hendrick Motorsports put together a strong season with the team's four drivers winning 18 of 36 races and Johnson claiming the championship after battling it out down the stretch with teammate Jeff Gordon, a four-time NEXTEL Cup Champion, who won six races and had a NASCAR-record 30 top-10 finishes for the year.
Johnson won the 2007 championship in dominant fashion bringing home four of his 10 victories during the Chase for the Championship. Johnson had 24 top-10 finishes for the season. Johnson became the first driver since Gordon to win double-digit races, four in a row and consecutive titles.
