Phoenix Integration Awarded NASA Contract Through Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) Award Program
Phoenix Integration was awarded a Phase II NASA Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contract for Aeronautics.
Phoenix Integration won a contract, valued at approximately $600,000 over two years, to develop a toolset that will meet NASA and industry needs by enabling more use of physics-based simulation models earlier in the design process. Phoenix Integration's PHX ModelCenter® software enables process integration for conceptual modeling in engineering design. The NASA contract will result in enhancements to PHX ModelCenter that in combination with existing tools such as PHX CAD Fusion®, will result in a physics-based design and analysis framework that will allow NASA and industry to design next-generation air vehicles.
"Our multi-fidelity system models and application of multi-disciplinary system optimization set Phoenix Integration's software apart," comments Dr. Scott Ragon, Director of Research at Phoenix Integration. "The SBIR award will empower Phoenix to further contribute to the aerospace industry by providing tools that will allow engineers to design and develop more efficient and environmentally friendly air vehicles."
PHX ModelCenter allows design teams to construct and execute simulation models of complex systems such as the next generation air vehicles. Complex design exploration techniques can be utilized to find optimal solutions, allowing engineers to design fuel efficient and high performance aircraft while meeting strict noise and emission requirements.
This year, Phoenix Integration is one of only 102 high technology small businesses selected to receive a highly-competitive Phase II SBIR contract. The NASA SBIR program provides qualified small businesses with opportunities to propose unique ideas that meet specific research and development needs of the federal government.

The program is a highly-competitive, three-phase award system. This year's selected projects are valued at approximately $72 million. Phase 1 is a feasibility study to evaluate the scientific and technical merit of a proposed idea. Phase 2 contracts enable expansion upon the results developed during the initial phase.
