CONTACT Software Teamed Up With ESI Group

CONTACT Software and ESI Group recently demonstrated during an international symposium the successful integration and bidirectional data transfer between Product Data Management (PDM) and Simulation Process Data Management (SPDM).

Their work on a real automotive use case demonstrated state-of-the-art CAD-CAE collaboration. By using the original CAD data, the CAE engineer was able to assemble, instrument and submit the simulation as well as automatically evaluate the results and create reports. These simulation results are generally used to propose design changes and to optimize the structural integrity, reduce weight or improve durability.

Engineering changes, such as change in thickness, material or geometry, can be automatically transferred back to PDM System, allowing the CAD engineer to re-evaluate the proposal taking into account the new design. If there are any design changes for parts used in the simulation, the CAE Engineer is alerted and can decide to propagate these changes throughout his model if they are relevant to the simulation. This tight integration makes sure both the CAD engineer and the CAE engineer work in a collaborative environment on consistent data. Such collaboration improves the engineering workflow, communication among engineering teams, as well as the quality of CAE results and the decisions made.
