ITP Propels PLM Strategy with PTC® Windchill®
PTC announced that Industria de Turbo Propulsores (ITP) based in Zamudio, Spain, has deployed Windchill®, PTC's content and process management solution, as its Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system. The joint venture of Sener Aeronáutica and Rolls-Royce is focused on research and development, engineering, manufacturing, assembling, testing, and repair and overhaul of gas turbine engines for the aerospace and defense industry. ITP selected Windchill to foster improvement of product data management and all associated processes through the whole product lifecycle, as well as to reduce the total cost of ownership of the IT architecture by deploying an industry standard out-of-the-box solution.
"As a prime supplier to the world's leading OEMs, ITP needed to manage the product structure and associated documentation in a controlled and secure environment, as well as the implied processes, like change management, to assure the levels of quality required. Windchill has demonstrated to be an integral and robust solution," said Txema Ruiz Sagarna, head of the engineering IT department at ITP. "The out-of-the-box capabilities of Windchill enable us to take advantage of the latest technology much faster than we could before. We have experienced important improvements in some important processes, where we need to manage and control the product information that flows among the different team members and departments, and we have reached, in some cases, time savings up to 75%." These time reductions are benefiting ITP's product development cycle and reducing costs, giving the teams more time to spend on relevant tasks in the core product development process rather than spending time in non value-added tasks.
ITP will soon deploy the collaboration capabilities of Windchill ProjectLinkT. "PTC's scalable and upgradable solution also provides us with future opportunities to expand the deployment to other key product development processes and across our extended enterprise. We believe Windchill will help us foster interoperability among all our globally distributed development sites, as well as with our subcontractors, suppliers and customers. Windchill ProjectLinkT will be the tool that we will use to manage not only our product development projects but all kind of internal initiatives where engineering data and process management are the basis. This fact demonstrates that Windchill meets our existing and future business needs," said Dr. Iñaki Ulizar, ITP engineering and technology director.
ITP strives to meet the increasingly complex customer demands for engineering, product development and manufacturing, adopting industry best practices in its product development processes. Therefore, the company looked for a PLM solution that was powerful, highly scalable and fast to deploy. The decision to implement Windchill was also driven by the capability to easily integrate it with other corporate systems.
"To unlock business value by deploying PLM technology, you need to have the right processes in place and full management support through to each individual user," said Richard Prince, director of aerospace & defence market strategy, PTC. "Customers like the fact that our out-of-the-box solutions can meet their requirements without customization so that they can focus their services investments on process optimization and user adoption to ensure that they realize the maximum value from their software investments."
