SENER INGENIERÍA Y SISTEMAS, S.A. Has Been Awarded the Contract for the Engineering of the New Viking Line Ferry
SENER will carry out the basic and detailed engineering of the new RO-PAX ferry of the Viking Line for Astilleros de Sevilla, and will use its CAD/CAM FORAN system in the project. The agreement has signified a contract for 40,000 hours of work for the engineering company. The estimated completion date is March 2008.
The ferry, under the Finnish flag and Ice 1A class, will be equipped with the latest technologies to operate international routes, mainly in the Baltic Sea. The ship will have nine decks, measure 133 metres in length, with a 21.9-metre beam and a 5.7 metre draft, capacity for 1,500 passengers and a loading area for cars and lorries. As regards machinery, it will have four diesel engines with two shaft lines equipped with controllable screw-propellers.
The Viking Line's RO-PAX will the first ship built in Astilleros de Sevilla after its recent purchase by Astilleros de Huelva.
