Chosun University to Use FORAN

Chosun University, in Gwangju, South Korea, and Spain's engineering and consultancy company SENER have entered into an agreement for the license of FORAN Shipbuilding CAD System.

The agreement grants the University the right to use FORAN for academic and research purposes at Chosun's Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering Department. It also includes a series of advanced courses in Spain for postgraduate students, as well as technical support and software upgrades during a period of three years.

As a first step, FORAN modules for hull form definition and naval architectural calculations will be installed. Chosun University is working on several research and development projects for special vessels, such as cruiser and icebreaker prototypes, for which the System of SENER is particularly suitable.

A first team of students led by Professor Lee Kwi-Joo has spent two weeks this summer at SENER Tres Cantos offices getting started with the System.

SENER, through its Marine Strategic Business Unit, maintains similar agreements with technical departments of universities in Brazil, China, India, Russia, Singapore and Spain.
