Leica Camera AG Confirms Strategic Collaboration With CoCreate
CoCreate Software, Inc., a leading provider of 3rd generation PLM software applications for high-tech electronics and machinery, today announced that Leica Camera AG will use OneSpace Model Manager at 60 workstations for construction and production planning.
Leica is renowned for German engineering excellence and for its role in the culture of seeing. Headquartered in Solms, Germany, the company has a long history as both specialists of perception and developers of innovative instruments for extraordinary visual experiences. In addition to its better known line of cameras and lenses, Leica also offers high-quality sports optics such as bright binoculars, spotting scopes and laser range finders. In the past year, total sales of the Leica Camera Group grew 36.5%.
The company attributes much of its success to continuous optimization of products and the product development environment. The recent process for finding new software illustrates the company's commitment to ensuring ongoing improvement. "Our system for managing product data became increasingly obsolete," says Peter Farnung, CAD System Manager at Leica. "So we began looking for an efficient way to manage CAD data from CoCreate OneSpace Modeling and CoCreate OneSpace Drafting."
Although the company has long been satisfied with the CoCreate OneSpace Suite, it investigated alternatives to ensure it made the best choice. It quickly became clear that neither the management of design data in the ERP system nor the PDM solutions from third-party providers offered the consistency Leica required. Plus, with third-party systems Leica couldn't benefit from light weight models, partially load models or configure user-defined model views.
"CoCreate OneSpace Model Manager exhibited excellent performance, a modern user interface and flexibility," says Farnung. "Opting for Model Manager was an easy choice for us, and it strengthens our strategic decision to work with the CoCreate OneSpace Suite."
OneSpace Model Manager makes sure developers can truly work in parallel-all in-house and external team members can easily search for, load and save 3D models, associated drawings and other product-related design data. Revisions, status checks, usage lists and the ability to reuse search criteria improve productivity and ensure that anyone involved in the product development process can access the correct data.
The switch to the new PDM solution, which includes data migration, reconfiguration and training, is carried out by ASCAD, a CoCreate partner that has collaborated with Leica for many years with great success.
