CIMdata in the News: Siemens Buys UGS
In the Daily Channel News , Ed Miller, president of CIMdata comments on the Siemens purchase of UGS:
"This really could give Siemens the ability to develop a much broader suite of solutions," explained Ed Miller, president of CIMdata.
"There are a lot of good words at Siemens around understanding the strength of UGS in the full product life cycle, understanding what they are bringing in the full solution," he observed.
The test will be in the details of how the respective design teams are able to work together, stated Miller.
"Since Siemens and UGS have been involved in different parts of the product life cycle, they have to be able to take advantage of the skill sets and expertise from both sides, as opposed to one driving the other one."
Miller explained that the merger does not affect IBM's current arrangement with UGS where a SMB version of UGS PLM will be sold to smaller manufacturers through IBM channel business partners.
