Serena Software Appoints New Executives

Serena Software, Inc. announced the addition of two software industry veterans to its executive team. Former IBM and Reuters executive Michael Steinharter joins Serena as senior vice president of worldwide field operations with responsibility for sales, services, and customer support. John Scumniotales, the first ScrumMaster and co-creator of the Scrum agile development methodology, has been appointed vice president of product management.

Michael Steinharter brings more than 25 years of global experience in the technology and financial services industries. He most recently held the position of president at Reuters Americas, where he built the company's professional sales and services organization in North and South America. Prior to Reuters, Steinharter spent 22 years at IBM in a number of technical, sales, services, and general management roles in the U.S., Asia, and Europe. These roles included vice president of IBM Global Services as well as vice president of Financial Services, which is IBM's largest sector.

As a proponent and practitioner of customer-centric agile product development approaches, John Scumniotales has spent nearly 20 years at the forefront of the software and technology marketplace. At Serena , Scumniotales is responsible for product strategy and delivery for Serena's Change Governance products. He directly manages Serena's global product management team as well as research and development for Serena's Project and Portfolio Management (PPM) products. Scumniotales joined Serena via its acquisition of Pacific Edge Software, where he was vice president of products. Prior to Pacific Edge, Scumniotales held a variety of senior technology management roles at Rational Software (since acquired by IBM).
