Cadence Expands Research Laboratory to Extend Technology Leadership

Cadence Design Systems, Inc. announced the opening of a new facility for its research laboratory in Berkeley, Calif. Part of the ongoing commitment at Cadence to develop advanced research facilities around the world, the Cadence Research Laboratories at Berkeley host world-leading multi-discipline researchers as they address next-generation electronic design automation challenges. Mike Fister, president and CEO of Cadence, and Andreas Kuehlmann, director of the Cadence Research Laboratories, will be on hand with industry and community leaders to unveil the 21,000-square-foot facility.

The Cadence Research Laboratories at Berkeley have been a center of technical excellence and thought leadership for 14 years. As the core facility for Cadence's worldwide advanced research activities, this new and larger location strengthens the commitment to global research and innovation at Cadence. Just steps from the University of California at Berkeley, one of the world's most prestigious institutions of higher education and advanced research, the Cadence Research Laboratories are within easy reach of the dynamic economic engine of Silicon Valley.

In commemoration of the opening of this new facility, Cadence made a gift of $10,000 to the science and math departments at Berkeley High School. This gift will be used by the school to develop curriculum focusing on problem-solving skills. "Cadence is pleased to support the development of the next generation of technologists," said Fister. "Helping students learn how to approach and solve problems mirrors the work that Cadence does every day, and this is the kind of program that will encourage students to consider a career in the areas of math and science."

About the Cadence Research Laboratories at Berkeley

Cadence Research Laboratories were established in 1993 in Berkeley to focus on advanced research in electronic design automation. Today the lab is the core facility for Cadence's worldwide advanced research activities. The lab's research is based on multiple scientific disciplines and their rigorous application to real-world problems in design automation. By maintaining a close connection to Cadence's product organizations, the University of California at Berkeley, and the broader research community, we help drive technology from theoretical research to practical applications.
