Simulia: Glass Service Improve BV Reduces Time And Cost of Bottle Blow Molding with Realistic Simulation Solutions from Dassault Systèmes
Dassault Systèmes ( DS ) announced that Glass Service Improve BV, a provider of advanced solutions for glass manufacturing, is using professional services and Abaqus Unified Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software from SIMULIA to accelerate and optimize the development process of non-round glass bottle forming.
Glass bottle manufacturers in general, but especially flaconage producers creating complex non-round geometries, are under significant market pressure to produce containers, in a variety of sizes and shapes, quickly and at lower costs. The 3D glass forming analysis method, also applicable to other forming and industrial applications, makes it possible for designers to accurately evaluate the optimum blow mold process in a virtual environment, reducing or eliminating costly physical testing.
"New container designs have traditionally been introduced through a trial-and-error process in a live production environment," stated Gerard de Leede, managing director, Glass Service Improve BV. "Increased market pressure has made the old process impractical. SIMULIA's expertise and Abaqus FEA software make it possible for our customers, such as Bormioli Luigi, to save money and shorten time to market for boutique glass designs like perfume bottles."
"Customer partnerships, innovative methods development and advanced simulation technology are what set us apart in industries where the use of predictive simulation is rapidly increasing," stated Ken Short, vice president, SIMULIA strategy and marketing. "During a services engagement, our engineering teams work to gain a thorough understanding of our clients' requirements and processes in order to develop a solution that helps get new products to market reliably and efficiently."
In collaboration with Glass Service Improve , SIMULIA has developed a methodology that uses an automated remeshing technique to simulate a multistage manufacturing process involving viscous materials that are subjected to high temperatures, large geometry deformation, and complex contact. This methodology is central to Glass Service Improve's Galileo-Plus product, which uses Abaqus FEA technology to enable designers to reliably simulate the glass forming process from beginning to end.
