JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) Selects MSC.Software's Marc for Thermal-Structural Simulation Program

MSC.Software, the leading global provider of enterprise simulation solutions including simulation software and services, today announced that JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency), Japan's core organization for aerospace technology, has selected their solution, Marc, as their thermal-structural simulation program for nonlinear structural analysis.

As a core organization for aerospace technology, JAXA promotes activities ranging from basic research to technology development and utilization. Marc will perform thermal-structural simulation in a research project on structural reliability assessment technology for the Institute of Aerospace Technology. It will be used to develop integrated simulation such as the complex phenomenon of thermal radiation.

A solution was needed to address the strong-coupling problem of thermal, structural, fluid, and material. The introduction of an alternative nonlinear analytical program was considered but because of the ease-of-use of MSC.Software's Marc with Mentat which was already in use at JAXA, along with its effective integration with MSC Nastran, Marc was selected.

"Marc is a well-known, easy to use and respected program for nonlinear structural analysis that collaborates with MSC Nastran," said Yutaka Sato, director of Structure Technology Center at JAXA. "Marc will play a significant role in building the thermal-structural simulation which is one of the important pillars of this project."

"We are very pleased that we can contribute to the security of our country by supporting the leading-edge engineering development of aerospace technology," said Toru Kawaguchi, president, MSC.Software Ltd. Japan. "We believe that MSC.Software's technology which effectively allows coupled analysis over different domains will achieve the JAXA's technological development goals."
