Aerospace Division of Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries Selects MSC.Software's MD Nastran to Improve Rotor Dynamics Analysis Studies

MSC.Software announced that the Aerospace Division of Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries Co ., Ltd. (IHI), a leading manufacturer of jet engines, has selected MSC.Software's industry standard, multi-discipline analysis solver MD Nastran to perform rotor dynamics analysis for the development of jet engines.

In the field of aeronautics, improvements in safety and reliability combined with reduction of noise and emission must be considered when developing jet engines. Since manufacturers face increasing pressures to deliver market-ready products in a low-cost, timely manner, faster development time is strongly encouraged. MSC.Software's multi-discipline analysis solver MD Nastran helps to streamline the analysis of fuselage-engine integration in the jet engine development process. By using MD Nastran's rotor dynamics feature, which can simulate the vibration specific to body of rotation and engine vibration, the safety and durability of jet engines can be significantly improved.

"It is a huge advantage for us that MD Nastran includes a rotor dynamics feature as this is crucial for aircraft manufacturers," said Masaharu Shinozaki, general manager of the structure and heat transfer technology group at IHI Aerospace Division. "Adoption of MD Nastran multi-discipline analysis code has reduced the cost to develop in-house software, and as a result, we are able to focus on development."

"We are very pleased to see IHI adopt the multi-discipline approach for simulation for mission critical systems such as jet engines," said Toru Kawaguchi, president, MSC.Software Ltd. Japan. "MD Nastran's rotor dynamics capabilities provide IHI with an integrated platform to perform both durability runs as well as safety checks on these complex dynamic systems."
