Lumec Chooses VirtoolsT Development Solutions for Web-based Lighting Fixture Assembly Tool

Dassault Systèmes ( DS ) announced that one of Canada's top manufacturers of decorative and functional outdoor lighting products, Lumec, is using Virtools to power its new cutting-edge virtual 3D lighting fixture configurator. The Virtools product line is part of DS's new brand for online 3D lifelike experiences, 3DVIA .

Lumec has chosen Virtools technology to generate a real-time 3D presentation tool to best meet clients' needs and respond to the increasing demand by consumers for highly personalized marketing experiences.

The highly interactive and easy-to-use application allows customers to create and test their own personalised luminary on Lumec's Web site, http://www.lumec.com/ , via a completely intuitive solution in only four steps:

•  Choosing a category of product directly from a dynamic catalogue of SolidWorks models, as the application is perfectly integrated into Lumec's information system;

•  Selecting and personalizing the different components, benefiting from intelligent rules of assembly to verify each piece's compatibility;

•  Importing it into a variety of 2D contexts or 3D environments, giving the customer the ability to walk through the resulting environment, as well as test lighting in non-daylight conditions; and

•  Saving the final configuration and emailing or printing the finished 3D presentation. The user can also automatically generate a detailed personalized specification sheet and an order code to be directly addressed to Lumec.

"Virtools' Web deployment technology is extremely powerful, allowing us to offer our customers a fast, intuitive tool, accessible worldwide with only a few clicks," said Jonathan Hardy, an industrial designer with Lumec. "Previously, it took two to three days for our customers to obtain a 2D representation of their lighting assembly. With the help of Virtools, we now offer our customers an immediate 3D representation of their assembly in its intended context."

"We worked closely with Lumec, addressing their need for an intuitive, interactive sales configurator by implementing an open architecture that they can reuse and customize for future projects," commented Stephane Dupasquier, VP, services, Virtools, Dassault Systèmes. "Virtools' compatibility with SolidWorks simplified CAD data importing processes, allowing Lumec to use several 3D models they already had on hand."
