Dassault Systèmes' DELMIA UltraPaint Selected by Aerobotix to Reduce Lead Engineering Time and Improve Plant Floor Productivity
Dassault Systèmes ( DS ) announced that its DELMIA UltraPaint robotic solution has been selected for use at Aerobotix, Inc., in Huntsville, AL. Aerobotix, a robotic coating system integrator, will be using the solution to perform robotic paint path programming for a U.S. Army Humvee (HMMWV for High Mobility Multi-purpose Wheeled Vehicle) depot level maintenance operation.
"Ours is a complex application that requires the development of numerous paint paths for the robotic coating system in order to apply primers and topcoats in both single-color and camouflage paint configurations," says Daniel Sample, Aerobotix Robotics Engineer. "After analyzing various options, we determined the DELMIA UltraPaint software was the best solution to help us improve manufacturing quality, accuracy, and profitability."
DELMIA UltraPaint is a physics-based, scalable robotic simulation solution for modeling and off-line programming of complex, multi-device robotic paint cells that comes with a complete set of painting simulation tools. Spray gun and paint attributes can be entered into the painting device and the results can be graphically displayed in multiple colors illustrating relative film thickness; or exact thickness can be obtained through the uses of a built-in film build gage. Complex paint booths can be constructed, and multiple robot moving line applications can be simulated.
Additionally, the Realistic Robotic SimulationT (RRS) feature allows the UltraPaint software to interface with a robot manufacturer's proprietary motion planning software (called a RCS module) to provide greater accuracy in the trajectory motion and cycle time prediction.
In this application, 3D models of multiple HMMWV variants were created and imported into the robotic workcell developed in UltraPaint. Each paint path program was created and simulated in the cell after considering the robots' reachability and clearances. With the simulation capability, programs could be sequenced to avoid workspace conflicts and optimized to gain efficiencies. Overall, DELMIA UltraPaint is helping Aerobotix reduce lead engineering time and improve plant floor productivity.
