Eurostep to Assist the Development of Next Generation Aero Engine Technology

The next generation of aero engines will be designed to meet high requirements on reduced fuel consumption and less noise. Volvo Aero is leading a project funded by the Swedish government to enhance the work in this important area of innovation. Eurostep has signed an agreement to participate in the high level project.

The development of the next generation of aero engines requires cooperation between a large number of companies. Eurostep will contribute with the Share-A-spaceT software solution for collaboration, which is central for the efficient sharing of information in a virtual organization.

The project is funded by the Swedish government with a budget of 63 MSEK (appr. 6,8 MEUR). This is the first time that the government has funded a demonstrator program in the civil aeronautical industry, and an important step in the development of more environmentally friendly aero engines.

Volvo Aero is taking part in the European initiative called SAGE, "Sustainable And Green Engine", together with for instance Rolls Royce and Snecma. Eurostep and Volvo Areo, together with more than 50 other organizations, are partners in the EC funded project VIVACE. The knowledge developed in VIVACE will be an important building block in the new aero engine project.

Besides Eurostep and Volvo Aero, several Swedish companies and organizations are taking part in the project: A-teknik, Permanova Lasersystem AB, Innovatum Teknikpark AB, SICOMP AB, Högskolan Väst and Luleå Tekniska Universitet.

Partners on the international level include major engine manufacturers such as General Electric, Pratt & Whitney, Rolls Royce, Snecma and MTU
