Dongfeng Chaoyang Diesel Engine Improves Cross Functional and Departmental Collaboration with PTC® Windchill®

PTC, the Product Development Company®, announced that Dongfeng Chaoyang Diesel Engine Co., Ltd., one of the largest diesel engine manufacturers in China, has optimized and streamlined its product development processes with PTC Windchill solutions. The deployment of Windchill has improved cross-functional and departmental collaboration involving engineers in design, engineering, manufacturing, assembly, as well as users in other corporate departments. By building a complete, consistent and up-to-date repository for Product Development information based on Windchill, Chaoyang Diesel Engine has realized the comprehensive integration of enterprise information, and become the first to realize integration between Windchill and SAP in the automobile industry in China. Chaoyang Diesel uses Windchill in conjunction with its PTC Pro/ENGINEER® implementation.

"Companies in the automobile industry strive to reduce product development time while maximizing productivity management and advancing quality control," said Mr. Zhao Zhuang, general manager of Dongfeng Chaoyang Diesel Engine. "Given the intense competition in the diesel engine and powertrain market, the PTC Product Development System has become our key competitive advantage to ensure quick response to customer demands and collaboration with partners."

Chaoyang Diesel Engine has established Windchill as its enterprise-level PDM system platform to satisfy the needs of product structure management, change management and flow control, which provides advanced design methods and management tools to product research and development. In addition, Chaoyang Diesel Engine has established a database of more than 1,300 shared product structures. By reorganizing and optimizing legacy structures, Chaoyang Diesel Engine has solved problems it faced concerning the difference between drawings and parts/assembly in addition, Chaoyang Diesel Engine has enabled the release of product structure data to the production system using an optimized process flow and to provide accurate data release from the PDM to the ERP system. The process has enabled the overall integration of enterprise information in which the product information from technology, production, sales and finance can flow smoothly through the entire enterprise.

"We're seeing significant improvements in our overall product development processes using PTC Windchill capabilities such as BOM data management," said Mr. Gao Mingshan, director of the Information Center of Dongfeng Chaoyang Diesel Engine Co., Ltd. "Our product development team mainly depends on the collaboration technologies to deliver their work. With Windchill, we can control the information and manage the development process throughout the lifecycle of a product."

"The automotive industry is experiencing intense competitive pressures including time to market, the integration of differentiating electronics, and total cost of development," said Martin Walters, director of automotive product and market strategy, PTC. "Using Windchill in conjunction with Pro/ENGINEER to increase efficiencies around access to accurate data, the automation of workflows and BOM data management helps reduce operational risk inherent in the product development process."
