A New White Paper from CIMdata:   "Leveraging Product Development Knowledge"

CIMdata, a consulting and research firm, announces the availability of a new White Paper entitled "Leveraging Product Development Knowledge." The Paper is about improving the use of intellectual assets and product information to support product innovation.

According to John MacKrell, CIMdata Senior Consultant and author of this paper, "A company's product information is a valuable asset and should be available in a common way to all participants in its value chain, providing unparalleled communication among all who work to create its products and services. Leveraging the data that forms the enterprise's knowledge base throughout all of the product development organization is critical to support the transformation of the company's product lifecycle processes."

Mr. MacKrell added that a company needs to develop a process for visual data sharing and use in collaboration as well as other product definition processes, both for internal users and external partners. He suggested that this should be based on a lifecycle story built around business needs and those of the product lifecycle process, not just support for discreet, individual events in particular departments. "Look for ways to transform the product lifecycle processes. And as much as practical, a company should adopt a consistent, common format for looking at data, not separate formats for different users or different data types." Mr. MacKrell concluded that, "The keys to much larger top-line business transforming benefits derive from how well a company's strategy supports ubiquitous data reuse throughout the organization, leveraging intellectual assets to support product innovation."

Copies of the "Leveraging Product Development Knowledge" White Paper are available at no cost through the CIMdata website.
