Agile Announces Linux Support Plans for Leading PLM Solutions

Agile Software Corporation announced its plans to add the Linux open source operating system to the list of supported environments for its market leading Agile PLM solutions. In response to growing customer demand, the addition of the Linux operating system to Agile PLM will enhance flexibility, improve intellectual property security, and reduce total cost of ownership for the company's global customers.

"The addition of the Linux operating system to our Agile PLM solutions provides our customers with a robust, flexible, and secure way to share information across a global organization," said Jay Fulcher, Agile president and COO. "These capabilities will ensure that our customers maintain a competitive advantage by continuing to develop new products that meet market demand, while continuing to reduce their total cost of ownership."

Agile 9 provides a broad suite of business-ready, best-practice PLM solutions built on a unified enterprise PLM architecture. With hundreds of new customer-driven capabilities, Agile 9 features the new Agile Product Governance & ComplianceT solution for managing product compliance to industry standards and regulations, the expanded Agile Product Portfolio ManagementT offering, and enhanced versions of Agile Product CollaborationT, Agile Engineering CollaborationT, Agile Product Cost ManagementT, and Agile Product Service & ImprovementT. Uniquely built from the ground up for the networked business, Agile 9 enables a single enterprise view of the product record, across the extended enterprise. In addition, Agile's J2EE standards-based platform will enable customers to quickly and easily implement their PLM processes on the Linux system.

The Linux operating system is one of the fastest growing markets in the IT sector because of its low cost of ownership, openness, high-performance, and data security capabilities. According to market research firm IDC, worldwide sales of open-source applications, tools and system software running on Linux will increase from $5.4 Billion in 2005 to nearly $17 Billion in 2009.

The newest version of Agile 9 will support Red Hat Linux AS version 4.0. Launched in February 2005, Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS is the core operating system and infrastructure enterprise Linux solution for business-critical applications. With exceptional performance and scalability for both 32- and 64-bit workloads, it is the ultimate solution for large departmental and datacenter servers, providing customers a combination of value and performance.
