Gerber Technology Donates CAD Software, Signs Cooperation Agreement with Shanghai University of Engineering Science

Gerber Technology has announced it donated computer-aided design (CAD) software to the Shanghai University of Engineering Science (SUES). The donation ceremony, held on February 20 in the multi-media centre of SUES, was a prelude to the cooperation agreement between Gerber Technology and the College of Fashion, SUES signed during the event. Gerber Technology donated 40 seats (licenses) of Accumark PE pattern design, grading and marker making software and 40 seats of Accumark MTM made-to-measure software. This represents a total value of nearly 6,500,000 RMB ($800,000). As part of the donation, Gerber Technology will provide software upgrades to the school free of charge. Gerber will also train SUES instructors to improve their practical knowledge of the systems and their applications. With the signed agreement of cooperation, SUES has become Gerber Technology's newest education partner in mainland China.

A world leading software and hardware supplier of CAD/CAM solutions, Gerber Technology's world headquarters is located in Tolland, Connecticut, U.S.A. For nearly 30 years, Gerber has made a continued commitment to developing its business in China with a strong focus on the apparel industry. To support the growing market demand and trade opportunities in China, in 2004 Gerber expanded and relocated its Advanced Technology Center (ATC) to Shanghai Caohejing Hi-tech. The facility serves as a center for product demonstration, software testing, system training, customer service and support, sales, local product development and engineering and strategic purchasing, and also includes a laboratory for research and development with some of the industry's most advanced equipment.

SUES is a general full-time university specializing in engineering science. SUES boasts 18 colleges and departments, 52 majors for undergraduate students and 15 majors for vocational and adult students. SUES actively strives to serve the local economic development, cooperating closely with the local government and industrial groups in Shanghai to combine learning with practice to produce highly qualified students with practical experience.

SUES offers many special fields of study for undergraduate students, such as fashion design & engineering, fashion CAD/CAM, textile engineering, fashion art designing, fashion performance and planning, fashion marketing, etc. Thousands of graduates from SUES have contributed to the apparel industry in Shanghai.

"For nearly 40 years we have worked side-by-side with thousands of manufacturers to help them become more productive and more profitable. By supplying the latest computer-aided design and manufacturing technology to SUES and other colleges and universities worldwide we help to ensure that the industry leaders of tomorrow have the knowledge and experience they need to succeed," said James Arthurs, President-Asia Pacific, Gerber Scientific, Inc. "We are pleased that SUES is including our technology in their undergraduate program to foster the further use of computer-aided design in China."
