OSIsoft Announces RtMessenger

OSIsoft announced its RtMessenger Web part - a component of OSIsoft's RtWebParts product. RtMessenger represents a breakthrough messaging and collaboration platform tool based on Microsoft® SharePoint® Portal Server and Live Communication Server. RtMessenger links information worker roles and responsibilities to plant assets and allows users to see who is online and can help diagnose or remedy issues as they arise. When coupled with notifications, a user is able to drill straight into the asset display that gives them the information they need to start taking action or the ability to contact someone who can.

In a refining operation, for example, several people are designated as "experts" in a given operational discipline. If an anomaly occurs in one of the units, a designated set of role-based contacts are alerted via OSIsoft's alerting subsystem. When the recipient clicks on the URL sent in the alert, they can see process data in the resulting Web page as well as RtMessenger, which allows the user to contact an available expert in order to asses and remedy the situation. There is no such thing as "working from home" at a refinery, but there are plenty of opportunities to involve off-site expertise, for example, at a central engineering facility that troubleshoots problems remotely. RtMessenger can tell a user if a relevant expert is busy, available, or away from their desk, based on their Live Communication Server status.

"OSIsoft has always believed that context is critical and delivers enormous value in managing and analyzing data across assets," said Gregg Le Blanc, director of Product and Industry Marketing for OSIsoft. "As the corporate dynamic changes, improving operational efficiency using role-based context will become an essential component in managing mergers and acquisitions, company wide KPIs and even how remote workers communicate. As a long-time Microsoft partner, OSIsoft recognized the potential for how SharePoint's collaboration capabilities could dramatically change the communication landscape."

The RtMessenger Web part is a new addition to OSIsoft's upcoming RtWebParts product release. RtWebParts constitute the SharePoint Portal Server thin client components in the RtPortal family. The RtPortal family contains configurable, role-based thin and smart client tools used to display critical operational metrics that help span application, platform, and organizational boundaries to drive operational efficiency by providing comprehensive visibility into key performance metrics. With the RtPortal family of products, companies can automate, manage and monitor processes from end to end in real-time, providing an organizational framework from which to interact and collaborate effectively.

RtPortal extends the existing portal environments from Microsoft and SAP with pre-packaged SharePoint Web Parts (called RtWebParts) or certified iViews (called RtPM Business Package for SAP Enterprise Portal) so users can build personalized pages in either Microsoft SharePoint or SAP Enterprise Portal environments. This enables enterprises to easily monitor and manage real-time operations data and ERP software transactions so corporate initiatives such as condition-based maintenance, quality analysis, real-time production costing and event management can be realized more quickly.
