CIMdata Announces its 2006 PLM Vendor Forum Program:   "PLM scope expansion - addressing the suppliers' challenges"

Consulting and research firm CIMdata, Inc. announces its 2006 PLM Vendor Forum schedule and program. These international one-day events will be held in Detroit, Michigan, USA on March 30th, in Stuttgart, Germany on April 11th, and in Tokyo, Japan on April 19th, 2006. CIMdata's 2006 PLM Vendor Forum will provide a focused review of challenges that PLM strategy expansion creates for PLM suppliers, along with a discussion on effective strategies to address these challenges. As always, CIMdata's perspective on the state of the PLM market and trends will be reviewed in detail, as well as the first public exposure to CIMdata's 2005 PLM Market Analysis; including statistics regarding market growth across industries and regions, and the performance (revenue and market share analysis) of leading PLM providers.

Ken Amann, CIMdata Director of Research explained, "The PLM vision is focused on managing and supporting the full scope of the extended enterprise's overall product lifecycle. Continuing rapid growth of PLM related investments demonstrates that companies clearly recognize the value of a business integrated PLM strategy, and its critical role in their future success." Mr. Amann added, "As PLM has continued to evolve and mature, the scope continues to expand to more completely address the full product lifecycle. As a result, PLM strategies are expanding to incorporate initiatives in Digital Manufacturing, Service-After-Sales, Product Portfolio Management, Mechatronics, and a wide range of other programs. This broadening scope has also begun to impact other enterprise IT-based initiatives such as enterprise content management (ECM), customer relationship management (CRM), supply chain management (SCM), and enterprise resource planning (ERP)."

Mr. Amann further explained, "PLM scope expansion is creating exciting opportunities for suppliers of PLM-related technologies and services, as well as tremendous challenges. New competition is emerging from different perspectives: new suppliers of solutions tightly focused on narrow functional areas, well established suppliers from tangent domains are overlapping with PLM, existing suppliers that are focusing on specific industries or size of customers, etc. In this highly dynamic and competitive environment, PLM suppliers must clearly understand and effectively articulate their focus and differentiation."

CIMdata's 2006 PLM Vendor Forum will provide a solid background for suppliers who want to better understand the market trends and benefit from them. For a detailed agenda, pricing and registration information, please go to 2006 Vendor Forum .

What is PLM?

PLM is a strategic approach that applies a consistent set of business solutions in support of the collaborative creation, management, dissemination, and use of product definition information. It spans the extended enterprise from product concept to end-of-life-integrating people, processes, business systems, and information. Leading solution providers recognize the importance of PLM to business, and major industrial firms are already reaping significant benefits from their PLM implementations, in sectors ranging from aerospace and automotive to consumer packaged goods and petrochemical.

PLM ties together design, manufacturing, field service, purchasing, marketing, suppliers, customers, and other organizations and disciplines throughout extended intercompany supply chains. PLM allows companies to maximize their investment in resources, supply chain participants, and current and future IT technologies. It enables companies to unleash their past investments in multiple IT solutions, while maximizing their return-on-investment.
