Space Systems/Loral Take Satellite Manufacturing To New Heights With IFS Business Software
The IFS software will integrate with Space Systems/Loral (SS/L)'s current installation of Oracle® Financials. It will replace the company's UNIDATA-based legacy system with a modern, component-based solution. SS/L's goal is to streamline its project-driven manufacturing processes while having the flexibility to adapt to changing market demands and technologies.
"We chose IFS Applications because it's an excellent functional fit and the total cost of ownership (TCO) is much lower than that of the other enterprise suites we evaluated," said Jake Foraker, chief information officer for Space Systems/Loral. "Since our work is project-based, we also took a look at IFS' track record with project management solutions in the defense industry and were impressed with what we found."

IFS' fully integrated project tracking and product data management (PDM) capabilities, when combined with other IFS Applications components, make it easier to operate while managing the design, manufacturing, and ongoing spare parts logistics and maintenance support of complex products throughout the product lifecycle.
IFS customers within the aerospace and defense industry include the British, Norwegian, and South African defense organizations as well as the Eurofighter consortium. Commercial MRO shops and operators include Finnair, Bristow Helicopters, Aero-Dienst GmbH, Hawker Pacific, and Jet Turbine Services. In addition, IFS provides solutions to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) such as General Dynamics, Lockheed Martin, BAE SYSTEMS, Saab Ericsson Space, and GE Aircraft Engines.
