TCS Announces Global Partnership with SAP to Deliver Adaptive Manufacturing Solutions

Tata Consultancy Services Limited (TCS) announced a global partnership with SAP AG to deliver Adaptive Manufacturing solutions utilizing SAP® xApp Manufacturing Integration and Intelligence (SAP® XMII) and a set of TCS' industry specific composite applications. TCS also announced that its software tool for plant information integration-which will form the basis for these composites-was certified as "Powered by SAP NetWeaver®." The announcement was made in conjunction with SAP's third annual Industry Analyst summit, being held in Las Vegas, Nevada, December 5-6.

"This partnership brings together a comprehensive solution from SAP, with a compelling global delivery model and rich manufacturing solutions domain expertise from TCS," said Sudipta Bhattacharya, senior vice president for manufacturing and PLM solutions, SAP AG. "We look forward to helping our customers further embrace our Adaptive Manufacturing strategy and enhancing their manufacturing competitiveness, while lowering the TCO on their manufacturing infrastructure."

The SAP xMII solution was launched by SAP in October 2005 following the acquisition of Lighthammer. The SAP xMII composite application helps manufacturers become more adaptive by connecting mySAPT ERP to the plant floor in real time and delivering actionable intelligence. This solution is typically implemented within 4 to-10 weeks per plant.

TCS has already commenced the ramp-up of a delivery team to support this initiative. In addition to providing the implementation and support services, TCS also announced its decision to set up a dedicated team to develop 'composites'-preconfigured industry or application-specific templated software solutions which are based on the SAP NetWeaver® platform and enable rapid implementation and easy customization and support. This will be done in close collaboration with SAP's development team in India and in Germany. In addition TCS' software tools for plant information integration-which will form the basis for these composites-are as of today "Powered by SAP NetWeaver." certified.

We believe this partnership will add tremendous value to our customers around the world. TCS has brought together its significant strengths on the SAP technology stack, , with its engineering expertise in shop-floor systems and solutions. This will allow us to comprehensively address our customer's needs for seamlessly integrating enterprise and shop-floor information", said Ravi Gopinath, Vice President of TCS' Engineering and Industrial Services business and global head of its Manufacturing Practice.

The solution and services will be offered to SAP's installed base of ERP users, Lighthammer users and TCS' customers in the discrete and process manufacturing sector worldwide. As part of a joint go-to-market plan, the companies will specifically target industries that face stringent regulatory and/or manufacturing performance challenges that demand increased visibility to plant information for analysis, reporting and decision making. The pharmaceuticals, chemicals, utilities and automotive sectors have been identified as targets for this initiative.

More than 20% of TCS' revenues are from the manufacturing and utilities sectors. TCS employs more than 2000 consultants in its SAP practice, and over 3000 engineers in its Engineering and Industrial Services BU.
