DELMIA Partners with Heart of Georgia Technical College to Provide Statewide PLM Software Training; 60 Georgia Training Centers to be Established by End of 2008

Dassault Systemes (DS) announced that digital manufacturing brand DELMIA and the Heart of Georgia Technical College (HGTC) have established a long-term business relationship to promote the education of 3D product lifecycle management (PLM) software from DELMIA throughout the state of Georgia. To enable the education plan, DELMIA is providing software of its expanded high-tech PLM software suite to the Heart of Georgia Technical College. DS PLM solutions, which are employed by companies such as Boeing, Pratt & Whitney, Toyota Motor Corporation, DaimlerChrysler and others, make it possible to design and develop products and verify manufacturing processes in a 3D digital environment through the collaborative use and storage of data.

As part of the agreement, DELMIA will provide software training to HGTC in Dublin, Georgia, which has been appointed as the initial PLM for Digital Manufacturing training center. Heart of Georgia Technical College will develop the training "template" and supervise the entire program rollout. It will then work through the Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education's network of technical colleges and other public and private institutions to create additional training centers throughout the state, which will total 60 by the end of 2008. Other educational facilities are certified as training centers.

In addition to the software needed to make this program a success, HGTC will also secure the necessary hardware. Says Lloyd Horadan, vice president, Heart of Georgia Technical College and supervisor of the statewide training program, "We will seek funding to support the necessary hardware needs through the Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education TECHMATCH program, which has a matching funds program to meet the market value of goods provided by private donations."

"The opportunity that this brings our students and the state of Georgia is unbelievable," says Michael Vollmer, Commissioner, Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education. "With 181 school systems consisting of over 800 middle and high schools through our 34 technical colleges, we will be able to create an effective educational path that will prepare students for a career in digital engineering and manufacturing. Successful implementation of this highly sophisticated software training will position Georgia as the high-technology hub of the U.S. We believe that companies will be flocking here to gain access to this competent workforce."

The long term strategy of the training program is to develop specialized centers throughout the state that focus on particular industry segments such as aerospace, automotive, shipbuilding, electronic or consumer goods. "To accomplish this," says Dr. Randall Peters, president of Heart of Georgia Technical College, "we plan to firmly establish relationships with companies within various manufacturing sectors so that we can build our curriculum around what each market demands. In return, they get highly qualified, job-ready employees."

"This is a landmark program," says Philippe Charles, CEO, DELMIA. "Although, we have academic partnerships with numerous major universities and high schools across North America, it is the first time that we implemented a technical training program of this scope. We know it will work and we are delighted to contribute in preparing students for future 'digital production engineering' careers."

The leveraging and management of electronic data made capable with PLM implementation is becoming increasingly important in order for companies to compete and survive in today's global economy. In a recent study released by market analyst CIMdata, the 2004 overall PLM market grew by 8% over 2003 to approximately $16.7 billion. Approximately 68% or $11.4 billion was invested in tools such as Dassault Systemes 3D PLM software portfolio consisting of DELMIA, ENOVIA, CATIA and SMARTEAM.
