Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre Adds Delcam Software

Delcam announced that the company has become a member of the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC with Boeing), a joint initiative by the University of Sheffield and global aircraft manufacturer Boeing with a mission to create a Centre of Manufacturing Excellence for the aerospace industry. Delcam has supplied the Centre with its full suite of Power Solution product development software and Roger Onions, Sales Director at Delcam UK, has joined the AMRC Management Board.

The AMRC, University of Sheffield and Boeing have engaged in a multi-million partnership together with other aerospace companies, including Rolls-Royce, Messier Dowty and Smiths Industries, based at the Advanced Manufacturing Park in Rotherham, UK. The partners intend to build on the shared scientific excellence, expertise and technological innovation.

The AMRC's vision is to become a world-class global research facility developing innovative and advanced technology solutions for advanced materials manufacture. Building upon Sheffield's historic and indigenous expertise in metal development and processing, the partners are also keen to further develop their internationally acknowledged research into other materials such as composites. Novel and new materials will form an integral part within the development of Boeing's new generation planes.

Professor Keith Ridgway, Research Director leading the AMRC, commented, "We are pleased and proud that Delcam has agreed to become a partner of the AMRC. The company's membership will ensure that we have access to state of the art software and so help us to achieve our aim of being a world class centre of excellence in machining. We have a range of equipment for five-axis machining of complex components in the most demanding aerospace materials, including Cincinnati H5-800XT and Starrag ZT1000 machining centers. We will be using Delcam's PowerMILL CAM software to program these machines as part of our attempts to push the boundaries of all aspects of machining difficult and exotic materials."

"One of our major projects at the AMRC is to build a complete 'aerospace factory' to test new research techniques in a real world environment and introduce advanced, efficient and effective manufacturing processes," added Professor Ridgway. "We are looking forward to working with Delcam to develop the next generation of intelligent machining software for this project. "
