Siemens Business Services Develops Interactive 3D Solution for Kyocera Mita

Siemens Business Services has developed an interactive solution for Kyocera Mita that creates three-dimensional computer-generated images of products. In future the printer maker's maintenance technicians will use this solution as a repair tool and also be given online training in its use.

The growing diversity of products and ever shorter innovation cycles place increasing demands on the know-how of maintenance technicians, call-center agents, sales staff, and training instructors. This virtual product visualization solution will help them to find faults in devices faster-either locally or from call centers, illustrate the installation and removal of components, and permit cost-effective training via the internet-enabling a kind of "understanding by seeing". This Siemens solution allows the 3D visualization of almost every type of hardware and is also suitable for use by different manufacturers.

The sources of the geometric data are CAD systems, hardware scanners or the data is taken from photographs. It is used to create a model with animations and interactive fields that enable devices to be dismantled virtually and in the correct sequence. The separate components can be linked to product databases or to a spare parts database based on SAP. A single mouse click is all that is required to issue repeat orders or download documents from the database. The visualization is universally available either locally or via web browsers without the need for additional software.

Robert Hanusch, Training Center Manager at Kyocera Mita Deutschland: "For us and our partners the solution pays its way by enabling us to replace in-situ training courses and also avoid the travel costs of maintenance technicians. Its intuitive operation means that prior technical knowledge is not required."
