Intergraph Awards $1.3 Million Educational Grant to Helsinki University of Technology

Intergraph Corporation announced it has awarded an Educational Program Grant valued at more than $1.3 million to Helsinki University of Technology, Finland. The grant includes SmartPlant® Instrumentation, SmartPlant P&ID, SmartSketch®, SmartPlant Review, SmartPlant 3D, PDS® Plant Design System software as well as applicable consulting and services.

The university's plant design department will use the software to enhance its problem-based educational curriculum. Students in this department actively participate in educational projects such as the development, design and retro-fitting of chemical, food, biological and pulp and paper processes. The software will be used in plant design courses to expand students' understanding of the plant design engineering market, outline the workflows created using today's tools and challenge students to use the technology in innovative ways.

"Using Intergraph tools provides our students with an excellent opportunity to use the market's leading software for process design, preparing them for careers in plant design engineering," said Professor Markku Hurme, Helsinki University of Technology. "Our students gain valuable experience through hands-on training using process graphics and design software-beginning with their first design course. Students are learning sophisticated techniques using the same software as industry professionals."

Aimo Eerikainen, managing director, Intergraph Finland, said, "Intergraph's partnership with Helsinki University of Technology demonstrates our commitment to educate and prepare tomorrow's plant design engineering professionals. Early access to leading technology ensures students are better educated and highly qualified to become the industries' future leaders. Intergraph is dedicated to supporting educational institutions and advancing industry knowledge and awareness."

The educational grant also benefits VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, a contract research organization often partnering with Helsinki University of Technology to conduct research for private companies. The research center has access to the university's software licenses when both entities are involved in a project-giving both students and VTT employees the opportunity to sharpen their skills using industry-leading technology.

Intergraph's Educational Grant Program is an initiative to launch students into the process, power and offshore industries with the tools and expertise needed to advance the field. The program is designed to introduce and stimulate the use of Intergraph's plant lifecycle engineering software at educational institutions with strong plant-oriented engineering programs.
