German Automotive Supplier TOX PRESSOTECHNIK Shifts to Proficiency for Design Interoperability
Proficiency , a global provider of enterprise interoperability software, announced that TOX® PRESSOTECHNIK has selected its Proficiency Collaboration GatewayT solution. With the Collaboration Gateway, TOX® PRESSOTECHNIK is now able to provide the parts and assemblies it develops with Pro/ENGINEER® as native models in the format desired by its customers. With the Collaboration Gateway, Proficiency is helping the automotive supplier serve new customers whose format requirements it had previously not been able to meet.
TOX® PRESSOTECHNIK's product range includes metal joining and tongs systems, punching systems, its Powerkurver (KraftKurver) product family, as well as stamping systems. To design these products, the company's standard CAD system is Pro/ENGINEER; however, as a Tier 1 supplier to leading auto manufacturers such as DaimlerChrysler AG, BMW AG, Volkswagen AG and Audi AG, TOX® PRESSOTECHNIK needs to provide designs in the system preferred by each particular OEM. To meet these requirements, TOX® PRESSOTECHNIK originally designed individual parts or complex assemblies with Pro/ENGINEER, and then had to manually "re-master" the design using IGES or STEP data. Finally, any erroneous data had to be corrected manually - a tedious process.
To save time and money in the development process, improve collaboration with OEM customers and secure a competitive advantage, TOX® PRESSOTECHNIK carefully evaluated the available solutions on the market and then chose Proficiency. "TOX® PRESSOTECHNIK selected Proficiency so we could better meet the requirements of our clients in regard to their CAD formats, time constraints and quality standards," explained Oswald Dengler, CAD system manager at TOX® PRESSOTECHNIK. "We are now better positioned to win contracts from companies whose requirements we previously had not been able to meet."
"Proficiency helps Tier 1 suppliers in the automotive market thrive by eliminating the enterprise interoperability barriers to winning and delivering projects to multiple OEMs, which each require design delivery in their own preferred format," said Trenton H. Brown, Proficiency's president and chief executive officer. "TOX® PRESSOTECHNIK understands the benefits to be achieved with interoperability, and through its use of the Collaboration Gateway, Proficiency looks forward to helping them combat the inefficiencies in time and expense in supplier and OEM collaboration."
The Proficiency Collaboration Gateway is a Web-based, feature-level CAD interoperability software application that facilitates the sharing of product design information, including features, history, constraints, assembly structure, dimensions, and metadata, throughout the extended product lifecycle process. The software enables companies to exchange native parametric CAD models between Dassault Systèmes' CATIA® V4 and CATIA® V5, PTC's Pro/ENGINEER and Pro/ENGINEER® WildfireT, and UGS' Unigraphics® NX and I-deas® NX Series. The Collaboration Gateway is the only technology featuring an automated process to create models in a native environment and which meets the quality control standards of OEMs.
TOX® PRESSOTECHNIK began deploying the Collaboration Gateway at its corporate headquarters in Weingarten, near Ravensburg, Germany in January 2005.
