OSIsoft Announces MCN Health Monitor Software
OSIsoft, a supplier of performance management software, announced Manufacturing Control Network (MCN) Health Monitor, designed to enhance manufacturing IT infrastructure performance. MCN Health Monitor is a new product from OSIsoft.
MCN Health Monitor identifies hot spots in a process manufacturing IT network, and drills down into the history behind the events. This capability improves the performance and reliability of an IT infrastructure by identifying and resolving events that were previously difficult or time-consuming to diagnose, such as containing viruses and pinpointing network failures. It helps answer questions such as, 'Is the problem located in the local area network, the distributed control system application, or the servers?'; 'What events led up to the crash or incident?', and 'How do we trouble shoot problems that only occur intermittently?'
The new product includes interfaces that are installed in an OSIsoft PI Server or interface server, which collect IT data from the manufacturing network, applications and devices. It also includes a management console (based on the PI System management tools and a PI ProcessBook add-in) that configures IT data collection, organizes data by IT devices and automatically creates displays for IT devices on the manufacturing control network. OSIsoft's Wired City division was instrumental in the development of the product.
"When production facilities shut down due to infrastructure problems, it costs process manufacturing companies thousands of dollars," said Michael Saucier, vice president of Marketing, OSIsoft. "Maintaining uptime is crucial, and MCN Health Monitor is an effective way to centralize an operator's ability to be alerted to performance threats."
The solution is already deployed at a power generation plant. Using MCN Health Monitor, the plant is able to use just one tool to extract data and immediately pinpoint network bottlenecks and the cause of connectivity loss. A lost generating unit, for example, can cost the company as much as $1,000 per minute.
OSIsoft delivers performance management software to the world's leading process manufacturing, life sciences, and utility companies-anywhere real-time operational metrics fuel performance. With more than 10,000 installations worldwide, OSIsoft's real-time data platform crosses IT and process boundaries to incorporate and display operational information. Providing comprehensive visibility into operations, the OSIsoft platform unlocks the potential for timely analysis and the ability to make critical, informed and profitable decisions.
