Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence is a division of Hexagon AB, a leading global provider of information technologies that drive quality and productivity across geospatial and industrial enterprise applications. In 2001, Hexagon acquired coordinate measuring machine (CMM) manufacturer Brown & Sharpe and Wilcox, makers of the PC-DMIS metrology software and formed Hexagon Metrology. The business acquired and developed other quality hardware and software, moving more towards portable measurement and later automated and shop-floor metrology solutions. In 2015, a year after the acquisition of CAD/CAM specialist Vero Software, Hexagon Metrology was rebranded as Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence. The acquisition of MSC Software, a developer of simulation and CAE software, followed in 2017. Also within Hexagon's PPM (Process, Plant and Marine) division, formerly known as Intergraph, there is both CAD and asset management software focused on the energy sector.
Today, Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence offers a broad portfolio of products within the PLM space. Its software solutions weave a digital thread through design and engineering, production and metrology, enabling customers to break down silos in manufacturing, ensure quality throughout the product lifecycle and continuously improve productivity. Hexagon's metrology hardware provides the ability to bring real world data to the digital thread, providing unique insight into product quality and enabling better decision making.
The core components of Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence's offering are simulation and CAE tools for design and engineering, CAD/CAM software for production and metrology hardware and software for quality assurance. Within those three business units there are multiple products and services focusing on different technologies.
